Welcome To Indian Accounting Association (IAA) South Bengal Branch
The Indian accounting association is an interface between academicians, professional and practitioners from various universities, business, industry and government. The main function of IAA is to promote and disseminate the knowledge of accounting and the related subjects in India and abroad. Further, it aims to undertake and encourage research in the field of accounting.
Ever since its inception, the IAA has served as an important forum for raising the status of accounting both as a discipline and as an important tool for managerial decision making. The association was founded by academicians and professionals in accounting on March 17, 1969, and was inaugurated on February 14, 1970 by the Accountant General of Uttar Pradesh. It is a member organization of International Association of Accounting Education and Research (IAAER). It is also held in high esteem by American Accounting Association (AAA).
At present, IAA has a network of 51 branches in India with more than 5500 life members, and a Research Foundation as an affiliate at Kolkata. It also brings out a biannual research journal 'Indian Journal of Accounting' in the months of June & December to give wider publicity to research findings. The Association also gives IAA Young Research Award and IAA fellowship. The Association offers Life Membership and Annual Membership for Individuals and Institutions through its chapters across India.
IAA South Bengal Branch (Erstwhile IAA Midnapore Branch)
IAA South Bengal Branch erstwhile IAA Midnapore Branch of Indian Accounting Association was established on February 23, 2008 at Department of Commerce with Farm Management, Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, W.B. with an objective of spreading the academic activities related to business studies taking into its fold members from different colleges and universities of West Bengal and also from other academic institutions, professional bodies, financial institutions and corporate bodies. Presently, the Branch has 203 life members predominantly from the districts of South Bengal including Kolkata and Midnapore, though it has members from North Bengal and outside West Bengal also. At present, it is the sixth largest branch of the Association in terms of strength of membership and hence its importance at national level.

In the new year let me share a piece of information with you about our Branch.
You all know that IAA Midnapore Branch was established in the year 2008 in the
Department of Commerce with Farm Management, Vidyasagar University. Now,
the Branch has 183 members and the members are spread all over South Bengal.
We have some members from North Bengal and some members from outside West Bengal also. However,
predominant members are from the districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata and Midnapore.
To reflect this regional distribution of membership pattern in the name of the Branch it was
proposed in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Branch that the name of the Branch be
changed from IAA, Midnapore Branch to IAA, South Bengal Branch. This proposal of the Executive
Committee was approved in the 9th AGM held in Umeschandra College, Kolkata on 03.12.2016.Subsequently,
the proposal was sent to the national executive of the IAA and it has been approved by the
national body also. The national body has informed us about this approval. Accordingly,
the name of our branch is being changed from IAA, Midnapore Branch to IAA, South Bengal Branch.
Henceforth, this name will be used in all office records and official correspondence.
